NADFAS RBA 2015-2016 Guidelines for submitting work for consideration

  1. Make contact with schools

Get in touch with the art department staff of your local secondary school or 6th form college and arrange for 2-3 members to visit the final year 'A' Level (year 13), Higher level, or equivalent exhibition in June or July to select original work. Please give a copy of these guidelines to the art teacher.

NB no theme is set so there is no extra work for the school or the student; the majority of work  submitted by Societies in previous years consisted of portraits, landscapes and still-life or nature studies.

  1. Select high calibre original work; any representational subject matter may be chosen.

Original work in any medium including sculpture or ceramics will be accepted.However please only choose the very highest calibre work, consult with the art teacher if necessary. Remember, quality not quantity!  NB The following will not be accepted;

  • photographic or computerised work
  • work larger than 1 metre square, as gallery space is limited
  • copies of another artist's work, however loosely interpreted

Take a photograph of the work chosen or ask the art teacher to supply a good photo/s

Warn the student/school that if their work is selected it should be available from late January to end of March 2016 and that it will require framing as well as transporting to and from London. They will also need to provide information for the RBA catalogue in early January.

  1. Send to NADFAS by 7 August;
  • Use the online form to submit details of the school, student/s and photo/s or the artwork.
  • If you cannot use the online form email voladmin@nadfas.net to request a Word version of the entry form. You can then share images & entry form via Dropbox https://www.dropbox.com  Ensure images are captioned correctly.

All images must be captioned with the school's name, student's name; title & size of work in that order. Ensure you have given all the details requested on the entry form. The art teacher may complete the entry form & send it on your behalf with the images, but they must include your name and Society details. NB Work may not be forwarded to the RBA if details are missing or images are incorrectly captioned.

  1. The final selection

During October the RBA President and Council will select the work to be shown at the Mall Galleries alongside professional artists. Their decision is final; no correspondence will be entered into.

  1. If your student's work is chosen

We will email asking you and the art teacher to tell the student the news as soon as possible as we do not have contact details of the student.

Students whose work is shown at the RBA Annual Exhibition 2016 (usually in March) will be given the title RBA Scholar and a certificate.The NADFAS John Ingram Memorial Prize will be awarded for an exceptional piece of work.

Please ensure schools mention your Society's involvement if they publicise their student's achievement in the school newsletter or website. NB NADFAS may use the student's work in its own publicity.

  1. Framing and transporting selected artwork (your Society may wish to fund this)

Information on framing and transporting work will be emailed to the school once the RBA has made its selection. Please check that the school/student has received these instructions. NB It is the student's responsibility to provide information for the exhibition catalogue, to get work framed and to/from London on the dates stipulated by the Mall Galleries.

  1. If your student is unsuccessful you and the school will be notified by e-newsletter after the RBA has made its selection.
